Devlog May


Hi! Welcome to May's Devlog! This month has been a complete adventure, I completely underestimated the amount of work making a new move for Mac takes. But hey lets get into the bullet points:

What's left:

  • Implement events for the last area (We are here now!)
    • 6 Areas left
    • 1 Boss Battle left
    • 1 Regular Battle left
  • Polish third area maps and entities
    • Create all the art for this area and entities
      • 3 backgrounds left
      • many assets left (haven't counted them)
    • Create song for the area
    • Make music for the important events
  • Remake some rooms in the second area of the game
  • End of the game
    • Implement scene for the end of the game
    • Make music for this scene
  • Post Production
    • Add steam achievements
    • + Playtest the game and change things when necessary
    • Create cool art for desktop wallpapers
      • 2 drawings should be enough

Some Detail

So yeah, we are the same as last month in the bullet points BUT I did some very big things this month. I implemented, polished and finished the sidequest I was talking last month. That means I:

  • Implemented the other two scripts for the sidequest in the game
  • Made 2 icons for items
  • Implemented said 2 items in the game (gave them a name, description and added them in the code)
  • Made an icon for the new move the game rewards you when you complete this sidequest
  • Designed how would that move interact given Mac's other moves
    • Damage values
    • Number of hits
    • Shape
    • Combos
  •  Made the animation for the move (This took me 2 weeks because it means)


    • Made the rough animation
    • Adjusted timing
    • Made inbetweens
    • Cleaned the animation (most time spent here)
    • Colored the animation
  • Implemented said animation in the game (took me half an hour, I swear to god I don't code anymore, only draw and design)

I also made a small enhancement to how scripts are programed so they are easier to code. But well, that took a lot of time, given my steam page says I have only two months before the game comes out I think I have to move the release date yet again, even if it hurts.

The Plan

I plan on polishing the gimmick of the second area of the game this June. This means updating two rooms of the game to the new editor, redesign the gimmick and implement it.

I want to add two scripts to the area, for rooms that exist. Additionally I want to add two small empty rooms in the second area. And after all that polish the rooms that are in the game. 

I also have to update the demo files in linux to love 11.4 so people can still play it.

If I can do all this then the second area will be near its final state and I can finally move on to the last area events. Finally though, I want to make a detailed roadmap with a plan per month. I want to make sure I complete the game from here to december or january.
