Devlog June

Hey there! Welcome to June's devlog. I didn't managed to do a lot of things this month so I'll keep it short.

What I did

  • some bugfixes and enhancements to the level editor
  • Added a script in the last area
  • Fixed typos and game bugs
  • Fully implemented 2 small rooms for the second area
    • Made all the art, backgrounds, design
    • Implemented a small secret script (Its really hard to find but I hope someone can find it)

Some words

During June I tried a new way to work on the game. I tried to stop having  a set time each week to work on it, the idea was I would work in it for pleasure only (as a hobby). However it didn't work.

This game turned out to be my second job by this point, so its really hard to work in the game just for pleasure. So I decided to go back to the fixed schedule each week and its already working better.

There is a problem though, I was planning on releasing the game in July but given how much work is left I realized I can't do it. This would be the third time I push back the release date for the game and I'm tired of it. So I decided to no longer have a release date.

My original idea for this game was that it was going to be my big shot (as a deltarune fan may call it). Finding a job in the videogame industry in my country is extremely difficult, and most jobs in other countries ask for at least one comercial game released in a platform. My idea was I would make this game and then start applying for those jobs when I released it.

The problem with this is that well... life is hard, between my full time 44-hour job, taking care of my home, my social life, sleep schedule, healthy habits, etc. It's really really hard to work on a project like this in my spare time.

So I decided that this won't be my way into the industry any longer, I got rid of my deadline so instead of rushing to complete the game, I'll try to make it the best possible game I can.

Its super hard to make this decision because it feels like I'm giving up on my dreams and it hurts a lot. This is not the case though, I'll take this opportunity to learn as much as I can. And if everything goes well, I'll try to fund my own videogame studio in the following years.

Finally

I'll keep working on the game as I've done until now. You may see me a little bit more quiet on social media, I'm trying to figure out marketing and stuff, and now I can learn it at my own pace.

Thank you so much for your support until now. See you next month!

Big respect for making that kind of tough decision. And best of luck moving forward!
