Weekly Dev Log #1

Battle Animations

I worked on setting up the animations for the battles of the game. I managed to integrate this feature in the battle flow and used a default animation. It now looks like this:

Some problems with how this is implemented now are that it works only for moves that target all enemies or a single enemy. Also it updates the player and enemies hp, mp and other stats after all the moves have been used. Because of this the focus of next week will be to solve these problems, and if I finish with that soon enough I'll work on upgrades on the battle view.

Version Control System

Hosted a local git server using a hard-drive and a raspberry pi, I'll move the current repository from github to this server when animations are complete, some improvements are made to the battles view and a simple overworld cutscene system is made.

Music Department

With time I have accumulated a lot of small melodies that I composed while going to work or going home (I recorded them in my phone using a simple piano app). This week I passed the best of these melodies to LMMS and titled them according to the feeling they produced in me. After that, I sorted which ones I'll use for the game and which ones I'll use for other projects (Some of them didn't seem to fit in any of my current projects so I left those in a "Concepts" folder).

I also worked extra hard on a piece of music I think I'll use for a dungeon in the game. Its turning out pretty cool, I can't wait to draw artwork while listening to it. Also also I finished the first version of the battle music.

In numbers:

  • Ten 8 to 15 second melodies were passed from my phone to LMMS.
  • Started working on a dungeon song for the game.
  • Finished first version of battle theme.
  • One melody was reworked because it sounded weird (I didn't mentioned this earlier, oops!).
  • One melody was turned into a sound effect because it was fitting (Didn't mentioned this either, oops again!).

Promotion

Made an itch.io page for the game with a veeeeeery short description of the idea of the game. Customized the color palette a little to make it look more like a book. Added some concept art as cover image for the itch.io page.

Added dev log entries to bring everyone up to speed with what I have done. This is because this is the first kind of blog I make for the game. I also started making weekly dev logs and made the first one (the one you are in :O).
