Weekly Dev Log #5


Monday

This was a thesis day so I didn't worked on the game this day.

Tuesday

Music Department

  • Hired and got together with a friend who knows about music to teach me some stuff on music composition.
    • This lasted like 5 hours where they taught me about music scales, chords and basic techniques to make melodies. In between we also watched youtube videos, petted cats and ate.
  • Polished town theme.

Wednesday

Music Department

Time to apply everything I learnt yesterday

  • Created Credits Theme
  • Polished Battle Music (this may be its final form)
  • Finished Polishing Town Theme
  • Created Story Time Theme
  • Created Night-time Town Theme

Programming Department

  • Fixed bug that made the game crash when selecting an item in the item menu in the pause menu app
  • Refactored views from overworld for them to be more modular
    • Added Entity View
    • Made Player View extend Entity View
    • Created Entity Views for every entity en Room View
  • Added methods to be hitboxes to Entity View and Player View
    • Collision Boxes (red)
    • Interaction Boxes (blue)


Other

  • Posted gif on twitter, using #gamedev now

Thursday

Programming Department

  • Limited text in the overworld and cutscene app so that it doesn´t overflow their respective containers horizontally

  • Gave space for three lines of text in the cutscene app
  • Created intro cutscene in memory
  • Added new game option to main menu
    • When selected starts a new game and plays the first cutscene
  • Modified cutscene app so when pressing the action1 button and a scene hasn't finished it finishes it but it doesn't advances to the next scene
    • In the next gif the action1 button is pressed to make the text finish displaying and then to advance to the next scene:

  • Added pauses while the text is displaying given by the commas and periods so it feels more like reading a journal

Other

  • Made an excel file with the budget until now so if someone wants too make the same as me in the future they know how I did it

Fryday

Art Department

  • Finished intro cutscene's art
    • (why does it take so little to write this when it took me like 4 hours helpp)
  • Extended first area's background
  • Created color pallete files for two main characters

Programming Department

  • Fixed bug that made the hitboxes display wrong in debug mode when in fullscreen
  • Finished setting up collisions in first area
  • Display action icons of current combo when choosing actions


  • Inverted action icons when enemies are preforming actions

Writting Department

  • Added first cutscene story to database
