Devlog April
Heya! How are you all doing! Welcome to April's devlog. And I am happy to say I did a LOT of stuff this month, but by the looks of it it seems I will have to pospone the game's launch. We'll see what we can do.
What's left:
- Implement events for the last area (We are here now!)
- 6 Areas left
- 1 Boss Battle left
- 1 Regular Battle left
- Polish third area maps and entities
- Create all the art for this area and entities
- 3 backgrounds left
- many assets left (haven't counted them)
- Create song for the area
- Make music for the important events
- Create all the art for this area and entities
- Remake some rooms in the second area of the game
- End of the game
- Implement scene for the end of the game
- Make music for this scene
- Post Production
- Add steam achievements
- + Playtest the game and change things when necessary
- Create cool art for desktop wallpapers
- 2 drawings should be enough
Some Detail
This month I tried to make as many of the backgrounds for the last area as possible. After I was done with that I did 2 playtest sesions to figure out the direction for the game. Thanks to that I managed to find a lot of typos in dialogs and got some ideas to remake the second area of the game. This took a lot more time than I thought it would, I had to spend a whole week on it.
Anyways here are the bullet points:
- Drew the backgrounds for 4 areas
- Also populated those areas with trees and bushes so they look like the rest of the game
- Also also configured the camera limits for these areas
- Fixed bug that made some characters disappear after 4 scripts (had to fix each script individually)
- Fixed 4 typos in different scripts
- Fixed wrong warp in third area
- Fixed the camera limits for a room
- Fixed the start condition for a sidequest
- Playtested the whole game until now
- Designed a new sidequest
- Wrote 3 scripts with dialogs to achieve this quest
- Made icons for 2 relevant objects in this quest
- Implemented one of the 3 scripts
That's it! I sadly lost around 6 hours of dev time (equivalent to a whole week) because I started presenting burnout symptoms because of work. I'm hopeful because the symptoms seem to be on an early stage, so I should be able to recover for this. I already talked to my boss about it and he was super supportive and we'll start working on the causes next week (yeah, this was recent).
The Plan
For now I will focus on finishing the sidequest I'm currently working on. After that I'll balance the gimmick for the second area so it is easier to traverse. I'll also solve some typos and minor problems like music not playing or not looping in some cases.
All and all after the sidequest I want to split my time between fixing minor bugs, polishing the second area and making scripts for the third area. My goal is to make scripts for two of the rooms for the third area and polish two of the rooms of the second area during may.
That's it! Thank you for reading and until next time!
Cheers, Tomyatemo
